The Flip and Read Upside Down Book
By Alex Evans
'A clever little book offering young children a 'different' way of looking at things – upside down!' The Wishing Shelf
REVIEW
I very much enjoyed this short picturebook from the pen of Alex Evans. Set during the pandemic, it's the story of two children who look up into the sky and the different animals/objects they see in the fluffy clouds. What's particularly clever is how, by flipping the book over, the reader will see a totally different animal/object in the very same cloud. How fun is that!?
Now, I know most of you adults will remember younger days; long, summer afternoons resting on the grass and looking up at the clouds. And how, with a little imagination, you saw almost anything - sheep (lots of sheep), cows, bananas (if the cloud was particularly long and curved), and even cars. And that's what this book reminds me of – my childhood. As a result, I think most adults will love buying this book for children aged 3 – 6, and sharing with them the fun of cloud watching.
So, if you happen to be on the hunt for a sweet book for a young child, boy or girl, this might be for you. I think most children will, after reading it, want to rush out and see what they can find in the sky. And, let's face it, any book that can get children away from screens has to be good!
All in all, a fun – and rather original – book for pre-schoolers.
