'A compelling and utterly captivating memoir told using the skills of a talented storyteller. Highly recommended!' The Wishing Shelf

REVIEW
The subject of this book is not simple, black and white , 1 + 1 = 2. It's complex, often upsetting, but always compelling. It follows the story of a young girl who, in 1960s America, found herself pregnant and eventually giving the child up for adoption. Many years later, when she meets her now grown up child, she must try to explain what happened to her and why she did what she did so long ago.
This is not only a powerful story, it's wonderfully written too. The author is a talented writer and knows how to put across the torment and the anger that followed her through her life. But, not only is it a compelling story, it is also an insightful look at 1960s America and the way pregnant young girls - and the children - were treated. But that's not why I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed it because of the author's honesty; it's there on every page and I must congratulate her on being so open with her readers. It's only by discussing such things will the world ever change for the better.
So, can I recommend this book? Totally. Who to? Well, if you have an interest in the cultural history of America, this will probably be of interest to you. But, more than that, if you enjoy honesty and the work of an author who has a gripping, albeit sad, tale to tell, you will find this hard to put down.
It's not always an easy read …
…but it is a great read.
Enjoy!
