The Observer
By Brian Thompson
“A fast-paced, paranormal thriller with a highly unpredictable, imaginative plot and a strong cast of well-developed characters. Highly recommended to fans of the genre!” Wishing Shelf
REVIEW
The opening to this book – Frank, the MC, waking up with no memory of who he is – is excellent. And to be perfectly honest, it gets better and better from there. We soon discover Frank is no longer with us and will, in fact, become an Observer chosen by the Gods to protect both humanity and spiritkind from the Dark Spirits – with a little help from Michael who's 4017 years old! Yes, it's all a bit crazy, but in a wonderfully compelling way. So much co, I was thoroughly hooked from the beginning all the way to the Epilogue where I discovered, much to my delight, there's going to be a book two entitled The Demon.
So, what did I enjoy the most? Well, the pacing is excellent; in fact, there seemed to be a major 'revelation' in every chapter. I liked that; it kept me interested; kept me turning the 'electronic' page. Also, the characters, particularly Frank and Michael (I loved Michael; he's rather funny), were well-developed and, well, interesting. You can't help rooting for Frank who's sort of the guy-next-door thrown into a remarkable 'afterlife' adventure. And, finally, and this is the most important bit, it's an imaginative plot that's 100% unpredictable.
So, all you fans of supernatural fantasy, I'm delighted to recommend Mr Thompson's The Observer to you. I think most readers of the genre will enjoy the gritty plot, the accessibility of the writing style, and rooting for the rather confused Frank to save the day. Also, as an insight into a very 'alternative' afterlife, it's rather fun too!
